That's the way to do it.

I've maintained a number of websites over the years and have learned the hard way NEVER to trust the host to do backups.

By now it looks as if the MMOC may have to accept that the data is lost and start again (or call in the lawyers). But they need to do something soon to maintain credibility.

I don't understand why if they have a good backup, why they can't hand that to the new hosting company :? :dontknow: then continue with that on the new hosting site?

Remember when Orkney started this forum; seems he was ahead of the game!

Now thanks to Mick and others you have made running this forum look easy

I am amazed at a cash-rich MMOC not being ahead of the game. I have been a member for many years and there are some extremely IT knowledgeable members of the Club forum. With hindsight greater efforts should have been to tap into their expertise but if it's gone, it's gone.

My biggest concern is that if the legacy of knowledge Roy left us is lost.

Latest update.

Update: 23rd December 2016

The databases are now all fully restored and the upgrade process is nearly complete. Once final testing is complete the forums will be back up for you to access. We would like to reassure you that all your old posts and information have been retained in full.

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year

Well that's fantastic news for Christmas!

:)

I wonder why the host took so long to respond?

It appears that existing members can't use their old password, and advised to click the forgot password option. However in my case after doing so, and then being asked to enter email address, there pops up a remark saying the system doesn't recognise it. This is dispite confirming this address with the mmoc HQ. So looks like I'm stumped even if the forum returns!

I'm getting the same.

Probably they did not upload the database yet and this will resolve itself when they do.

Well whatever ones views are there is no doubt of the mmoc forum was very popular, a day didn't go by when there wasn't several postings, and plenty of knowledge dished out. You can go to some forums and wait days for a post. It's just a shame that this episode has possibly put an end to its prolific use, hopefully it will recover.

Yes, it's a pity it is down, but i'm sure this forum makes up for it. However, I would suggest that both forums are needed as they cater for slightly different wants, however over the years the gap is narrowing :D

Don't get me wrong, it is or rather was, a great resource.
...and as mentioned above, will be tragic if the irreplaceable knowledge input of the late bmcecosse was lost in the ether so to speak

Well at least I don't feel so bad about my difficulties with computers now, suspecting even the 'experts' are scratching their heads over this episode!!
