Late Travellers

Postby POMMReg » Tue Apr 03, 2012 9:57 am

Late examples appear to have near consec body numbers.

Are there any survivors with body nos. in the Z36054 221xxx's series?

Thanks for that, I knew it would be quite close to the million as it's a 60 do you have any idea what the other numbers mean?

Interestingly 1060 away chassis-wise, but only 500 body number wise.

Question about body numbers!

Postby Sonja Reynen » Wed Sep 26, 2012 6:23 am

Hi I have just joined the forum and have a question. I have the body numbers that are located on the 2 plates on the top of the firewall, but when I bought my car it didn't have the Vin or Chassis number plate.
Is there a way I can work out my car number from the body numbers? I want to get a new plate made once I have repainted my car.

The numbers I have are: (although paint makes them hard to read)
Z16315  R 6749
BMF 67336

Its a 1955 4 door. Can anyone help with some info?
Thanks in advance!

Sonja

This post has all the info you need
http://morrisminorowners.co.uk/about5171.html
It shows the 'chassis number' on the firewall next to the indent for the bonnet pull.

Well every time I go outside to check it starts to rain again, but I don't see any numbers stamped into the firewall near the bonnet pull and wiring harness.
In cars for the Australian market were they in the same place? I can't see any sign of the chassis number. I may need to clean the heck out of the engine bay...  :(

I wouldn't have thought it would be any different for export models. The stampings may just be filled with oily grime sort of thing.

Is it definitely a '55? Does it have a split front screen?

Yep split screen. It's registered as a 1955, but of course doesn't have the original engine etc.

Not sure if this will work but I there's a couple of photos of my car on the Morris Car Club of WA website...

The paint job is very very sad!   Ah well at least I know there isn't too much rust under the paint that IS there...

Always an optimist ;)

Just checking the year is correct. I can't think of any reason why it shouldn't be there :?.
Is there no documentation with the car that quotes a number?
