Isn't optimism a pre-requisite of owning a Morry? :D

In the transfer of ownership papers I've got no Chassis number/VIN listed...
I have an engine number APHM74240 which I believe relates to the Cortina engine.
That's it. A fountain of knowlege.  :)

Going by the numbers you've quoted, the chassis number will begin with 335xxx(ish)

Remember, you're looking for numbers directly STAMPED into the engine bay bulkhead, not a separate plate.

Certainly '55, although the number prefixed by an "R" should be 5 digits.

'ope dish 'elps!

Chris

I noticed you've got a page in the Morris Minor Magazine, only seen your first installment.

Quite disappointed you didn't give this forum a plug considering we have given you far more coverage (ie this sticky, a discussion platform and general support) than those who did. I hadn't realised they had offered you so much support.

Suggesting to look for their thread for Minor 'Body Numbers' didn't result in anything like the stuff I did for you, in fact it resulted in only one short post...

I await to see your next installment.

Russ put down "MMOC forum" INSTEAD of "MMO forum"!!

Looking through the article written on MY computer it DOES read "Morris Minor Owners forum"!

I'll stop building the wooden stocks I was getting ready for you then Chris...

Maybe Russ will add an addendum to the next issue with maybe the website address to stop confusion.

NO, just cutting the grass from under them and removing some of the stuff squeezed around them in that 'garage'. I would sooner see a car used with headlight peaks than used as a storage cupboard.

Not making much or any headway Pommreg, only passing car details as and when they jump up and smack us between the eyes.

There must be a better way than this-or are you content with just plodding away ?

As I am not a member of the mmoc, what was "todo" re that artical ? that Russ got the name wrong on ?

Plod along or give up?!

To be honest, I'm giving serious concideration to abandon the whole project, just too much hassle!!

Fed up of requesting body numbers from people who cannot be bothered to answer - explaining time and time again WHY I want these numbers, the LOCATION of these numbers..etc.

PLUS I have yourselves moaning at me for NOT mentioning the Minor Owners forum in the Minor mag, when the fault was with the Editor NOT me!

Cannot be arsed anymore!!

I'll continue to assist Cliff, but as for me........yet to decide!!

Sorry to be so negative.

Rather than give up on all the hard work both Minormadman & myself have put into the chassis/body number project,we're now recording engine numbers!

Whereas the MMOC solely date vehicles by chassis nos. WE can also date by the cab/body AND (if original) the engine number!

Even if you don't want to reveal your vehicles chassis nos. PLEASE let us know the body & engine number - it WILL benefit our research!

Update;

Cliffy(Minormadman) & myself(POMMReg) have compiled a listing which details approx body numbers by year - enabling us to establish the build date and roughly estimate the chassis number range.

When info permits, hope to do likewise for engines.

The MORE chassis/body/engine numbers we have, the more accurate our records will become!

Any enquiries contact either Cliffy or myself.

Thanks

Hello,
I'm trying to find out what's the building year of a bodyshell that I want to buy.
The mumber is probably Z28708. Can also be Z21708. The rest has rusted away.
Can someone try to situate the year?
It's a two doors body.
Thanks a lot

Hello Piet, welcome to the forum. :thumbright:

I do not hold full details of the body codes but from what I have it would suggest the number might be Z21708 as Z28708 would appear to have been part of the 4 door production line.

Have you any other details about the car you can give us, like front window type, has it got factory fitted seat belt anchorage points, etc. An engine size, number might help although it could have been changed.

POMMreg or MinorMadman will be able to check for you, I'm sure they will help out very soon.

Hopefully all will be correct and you will be able to join in with all the advice and fun of the forum.

Happy posting
