Large bore exhaust downpipe.

Postby dyates » Sun May 08, 2016 3:19 pm

Recently ordered a replacement from ESM (my car was Owen Burton modified several years ago, large bore exhaust, twin carbs) but upon fitting found that the angle downwards coming out of the cylinder head was not quite the same, and pipes 1 and 3 fouled the float chambers of the two carbs. Anyone else come across this problem? I bought from ESM because I thought they had taken over all the old Owen Burton improvement hardware....but the pattern appears to have changed.

As suggested elsewhere - if it's the 'tiny twin' 1.25" carbs then take the chance to upgrade to a single 1.5" carb and let the engine breathe! Or (as suggested by another) - make sure the phenolic spacers are fitted twixt carbs and manifold.

Thankyou bmc, was in fact considering the single carb, but need to get back on the road urgently. What phenolic spacers? as suggested by which other?

There should be 1/2" thick black phenolic spacers twixt carb and manifold. Partly for heat insulation and partly to help clearance. Like these -although they seem expensive I think. Are the manifold studs long enough to take them ? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Twin-HS2-1-1- ... Sw~oFXH3GM
