Sad news - RIP Roy

Postby Plin » Thu Oct 20, 2016 1:23 pm

Have just seen this very sad new on the MMOC site - I expect many of you are already aware.

Unfortunately I received some sad new via the email below that came from the Scottish Railway Preservation Society last night:

End Of The Line

It is with the deepest sadness that I have to advise that Roy Allingham passed away today, Wednesday 19th October 2016, after being ill for some time. Roy, who had been a member for 27 years, was a regular volunteer at Bo'ness primarily in the Steam, Guards, Diesel and Civils Departments and at Exhibitions.

Despite us both being members of MMOC and SRPS we didn't ever meet but I for one will miss his helpful advice and honesty. RIP Roy.

Such a great character with so much to share, we will sorely miss you Roy (bmcecosse), my thoughts and prayers go out to your family.

Very sad even though he was hinting that this day was close over the last few months. A true legend that taught me a lot through the various forums, my car is pretty much a Roy special with most of his ideas gone into it but I've also learned the potential pitfalls from him so not made the mistakes others have.
Thanks Roy you will be missed.

RIP Roy.

My thoughts are with his family right now, he will be greatly missed on the MMO Forum as I am sure he will be elsewhere too.
Roy will always be present on the forum as he has left a legacy of a great deal of knowledge and advice on our pages for everyone to make use of for many years to come. Thank you Roy, sleep peacefully.

RIP Roy, I'll miss your words of wisdom and great banter. Your sense of fun was much appreciated and you'll be sorely missed on the forums. My thoughts are with your family and may they take comfort that you were held in such high regard by all.

That is sad news. Often had a bit of a chuckle to myself at some of Roy's answers to a post. Just as well we have a lot of info on here thanks to him, as now that knowledge base has gone.

Rip Roy, you will be sadly missed. While I never met him, because of this forum and the minor community I regarded him as a friend. People like him with the knowledge they have are few and far between, his willingness to share his vast knowledge of all things BMC will stay with me forever.

Well can i say unfortunatley i never met Roy,but felt as though i knew him well. He was an inspiration to us all. An old school engineer of which there are only a few left now.But i will always remember and enjoy how he could stir the sh*t on the forum with joy and could imagine him sitting back smirking as everyone argued over his comments.Roy ,you will be sadly missed and my thoughts are with your family now,as im sure you`re looking down on us now ,still smirking.R.I.P.

This comes as a big shock, and of course like everyone else I send out my sympathy to all his family and friends.
Like many others I never met Roy, but I always enjoyed reading his posts on the forum, and appreciated the vast amounts of technical expertise he was able to share.

RIP, Roy. He certainly knew his stuff when it came to anything BMC, and his knowledge helped me out with my Traveller on more than one occasion.

I'll miss his 'old school/no-nonsense/non-PC' attitude. :(
