Had a few family issues to deal with. They are sorted now so I'll be starting again this week, tidying and preparing.
I'm still with it and hoping to get some serious time with the old fellow in June. By the end of of June I'm hoping to have the welding finished, although I'm a realist and know anything could happen between now and then.
Anyway fingers crossed, which reminds me of that old saying.... ' We will fight them on the beaches...'
Oh no, not that one...'The best laid plans of mice and men...'
It's an age thing.

Nice to hear you are still planning on sorting it. This is going to be very interesting as its so badly bodged.
Do keep a good file of pics and post regularly ;) such pics are great for the car in the long term.

A few hours to spare today, so some time with George (the Minor).
Rust, rust and more rust. I can see why the previous guy gave up on it.
Undoing the bodges is the worse thing. There is so much filler hiding poor repairs.
Anyway moan over, onwards and upwards.

Took the drivers side rear inner wing out today.
20160612_150645.jpg

I decided to take it out in sections just to make sure I didn't cut through anything I didn't want to.
20160612_150639.jpg

So I took my time drilling out spot welds and cutting pieces out.

While I was in there I found the rear spring hanger looking a bit shabby. It has been replaced before but the bottom edge has rotted through. Luckily one came with the car so next job is replacing that.

Took the spring hanger off and some floor came away with it as well as the boot corner. Funny how solid rust can look until you poke it.
While I was trimming up, the bump stop fell to pieces too.
Had a quick look on the net and couldn't find one so I measured up and made the component parts ready to weld up.
Haven't got any 2mm steel for the base so I'll finish it off tomorrow.

Where the old spring hanger came off the boot floor is very ropey.
image.jpeg

So I made up a section so ive got something solid to fix the hanger to.
20160702_165356.jpg

Cleaned off the underside and gave it a coat of weld through primer.
image.jpeg

Then tacked the new section in ready for the new bump stop to go in.

Prepped the box section for welding in.
Marked up with a punch then drilled out for plug welds.
Cleaned off with a flap wheel then
Finally a coat of weld through primer for the back.

Inside the support for the inner wing is thin and rusty.

So I made up a replacement and gave it a coat of primer.

All ready to weld in.

Welded in the spring hanger so I can line up the inner wing and boot corner. I'm not bothering cleaning up the welds as they won't be seen.
20160709_185345.jpg

I already have a boot corner section so I used it as a pattern to make a mirror image for the other side in anticipation.
20160709_154012.jpg

It'll be a while before I get to the other side but at least that's a piece ready.
