Yes it is a nice little tribute to Roy on the home page, thanks Mods for organising it as Roy was certainly a large part of the fabric of this forum.

(Thanks for pointing it out Panky - I usually just pop in straight to 'view new posts' so would have missed it.)

RIP Roy. Always thought alot of you. Even tho we had never me.

These forums will never be the same. The nice thought tho is that all the advice he has given is still out there online and will still go on to help lots of people.

Just logged on and saw this sad news. Roy will be missed on all of the forums on which he imparted his huge knowledge of the A series engined cars. Fortunately his writings will live on, for all to see and benefit from.
RIP Roy, my thoughts are with your family at this difficult time.

Sad news indeed. I greatly admired the man and loved his no nonsense approach to problems and irritations.

We all know his signature as:

Image

Not many will know he did ask me for one that went on his Hornby forum account. He was nearly banned because of it.

Image

His last words on this forum are wise and sums up his thoughts about using this forum, mainy because he would have put the answer up before:

I think it should be fitting that we produce a trophy to be presented (category to be discussed) at our Nationals at Pateley to remember him by (already discussed this with other mods). I'd like to suggest a coil on a plinth, or even on a Wolseley brake drum. Alan (The vast minority) has an actual Roy coil and has offered this for the trophy. However all other suggestions will be welcome.
I've also made a similar suggestion on the MMOC site as he was held in high regard there too.

Good idea Pete, maybe even the smallest model of a morris minor, he always refered to it as a "wee car". But will go along with what ever is decided upon.

That's a great idea, Roy's coil would be perfect - and maybe a set of specially sharpened headlight peaks for the winner to keep :)

I'd be delighted to provide a completed trophy if we decide as a group that we make it out of something he owned that was related to Minors.

He is pretty much legend for his catchphrase and having met him a number of times I believe he would be pleased to be remembered like this.

I have a coil and bracket on the shelf from Roy's collection. I could even take the coil out of his Traveller HDM113C and use that.

I've got lots of other bits of his as well so we won't be struggling to find something we can use.

Ray Newell, Secretary of the MMOC sent the following message to Roy's widow on Monday:

Can I, on behalf of the MMOC, pass on to you our sincere condolences on the recent passing of your husband, Roy.

As you already know, Roy was a prolific poster on the MMOC Forum, as well as other fora. On our forum alone he posted well over 50,000 times over his many years as a member of the group. I’m not sure that anyone has posted more times than Roy did.

Whilst his advice was sometimes typically Scottish - short and to the point - his wisdom and expertise were shared widely and I know there are many who valued his opinions and advice. He will be very sorely missed by us all.
