Traveller with Serial Number 1246969

Postby Swissman » Sat Jan 15, 2011 12:19 am

Hello all,

a few months ago I bought a traveller in Almond Green.
The engine number is 10MA-U-H 366916 and the serial number is 1246969 or more precisely MASWS1246969M.

To get driving allowance in Switzerland it is vital to have the production year of a car. Due to the fact that the car was bought in Italy this information is missing because not provided on their papers.

Now I would like to ask weather anyone would be so kind to help me out with that missing information. Especially helpful would be information if there is some official or half official car register which allows to identify my car.

Many thanks in advance for any answer...

Welcome to forums.

From that chassis number it would be some time during the latter half of 1968 first half of 1968.
if product rate was consistant between 68/69 then I would guess at between November/December of 68 and February/March 1969. I think you will probably need to contact british heritage to get exact build date.

Hi
I am new to this forum and cannot even work out how to post this question. I am hoping for some help. I want to purchase my first Morris minor. I have found one on eBay but cannot understand why it doesn't sell. It seems to good to be true, which means it is. The guy selling keeps dropping the price and no one bids on it. The reference number for e bay is item 331018880629. Any views would be welcome.
Thanks vince

Hi and welcome,

had a look at the ebay car, it is what it is, from the look of it,

not sure about engine mod's, others on here will know what it means,

if your close go and have a look or see if someone on here will do that on your behalf to far for me,

if its what you want take a chance it may be a good one, the seller seems' to be hiding nothing,

some rough ones fetch more, dont know why??

Alan,

EDIT: A bit late now - just seen the OP's post date!

A Traveller chassis number should begin MAW5...

According to the book 'Morris Minor' by Paul Skilleter, 1969 model year cars had chassis numbers 1241050 to 1268275, the last Cowley-built Traveller being 1257425 (18th July 1969) before they transferred to Adderley Park, Birmingham.

So, yours is one of the last year of production at Cowley.
Maurice, Kent.

Hello Vince-welcome to the forum.
If I lived closer, this is one car I'd travel to inspect.
It looks to me to be exactly what it purports to be.
Very similar year an build to mine, looks very unmolested and nice ideas have been applied to it.
I too have a 948 engine-but don't know about the 1275 head mod or the other items mentioned.
Full explanation and Interior seem OK.
We do have a few enthusiastic members who live in and around Pompey,so see if you can convince anyone -with the right incentives- to visit-inspect etc.
I do not know where you live but there are a couple of known cars up for sale up near York City.

Good Luck.

Regards

Cliff

Very genuine guy. Posts a lot on the mmoc forum. Built a really nice custom minor a couple of years back too.

But still, go and see it before bidding. You never know if anything could be lurking underneath.

Here's the link -     http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/331018880629? ... 26_rdc%3D1
I wouldn't hesitate to buy from Cally - the work he has done on this car has all been advised/supervised on the MMOC forum, and he does a good job - having had a Minor in the past.  The mods he has done are all to the good - although I would change the final drive ratio for a more relaxed 'cruise' - this is inexpensive and an easy swap over job some time in the future.  The car will be perfectly usable as it is - in fact you may prefer it that way.
