New boy

If you are new to the board or have never made a post before, don't just lurk around, post in here and introduce yourself and your Minor if you have one. It would be great to hear from you.

Dear All

Just a few lines to introduce myself, have been a Lotus Elan Plus2 owner for the past 20 years ( which I bought on impulse...and not regretted ),having converted it to Megasquirt Fuel Injection and ABS braking etc etc , but for the past dozen or so years have had a hankering for a Morris Minor sleeper....so, as I'm not getting any younger ( 62 ) and no longer feel sporty, am about to take the plunge....but this time the correct way...join the owners club first and glean all the info and then jump into ownership.

Living in Manchester with a small garage/workshop ( no cat-swinging ) am mulling over a 2/4 door ? , removable hardtop ?convertable ? ,pre-60 model ( tax/mot exempt ) ? , 2.0 Zetec engined ? , 5 speed gearbox ? DVLA 8 point system ?? , and having had a plastic car for all these years am no lover of rust....
Have been to JLH is it ? but my wallet belonged to a Scotsman before I bought it second-hand....

Please feel free to pen any advice, the more the merrier.

Thank You

John

P.S anyone local with an hour or so to spare,I'd love to come and take a look...

Hello John - I'm in the same situation as you - not ever owned a Lotus but am into my classic bikes and thought I'm getting too old to put off my ambition to build a hottish Minor.
I wish to use the Ford ST170 motor with it's standard intake and ECU, have already bought a MK2 Escort axle and a Sierra 5 speed - a little fragile perhaps for the ST170 - but there you go I've already got them.
Thinking of a 4 link rear suspension - would love also love to go to JLH for this but I just can't afford to.
I'm a long way off from this of course as the Minor shell needs a lot of work first.
Keep us posted!

After missing a cracker last week in Felixstowe have taken my time to survey the market and have purchased a 1958 948cc four door ( needing work, amongst which noisy 1st gear ) and just when I was looking around for an engine spotted a complete 2001 2.0 Zetec Focus Ghia 75,000 mls ( does the ghia make any difference to the engine? ) both of which will be winging their way back to my shed in the next week or so..
Plan A, strip all off the Focus even the wheels/hubs ( disc brakes front ? ),exhaust system ECU, radiator,ABS system etc. etc. etc.
Have I missed anything? Would hate to go back to the scrapyard and buy back what I've just given him...

Will keep you updated of any progress when there is any.

Have a look at this :- http://www.locostbuilders.co.uk/viewthr ... tid=190440
You might want to keep the Pats ignition switch, maybe the clocks - radio?

Thank you but no thanks,my first idea was to use the ECU and single throttle body but I am thinking of swapping the Megasquirt from the Lotus, and keeping the cabin area looking "stock"....The drivers side glovebox looks ideal for the rev counter, lambda display etc.etc.etc. behind the flap.
