If you are new to the board or have never made a post before, don't just lurk around, post in here and introduce yourself and your Minor if you have one. It would be great to hear from you.

Welcome. Lovely looking car. Is she a bit darker than the usual almond green, or is that just the photo?

Nice!

How do you find the wing mirrors? I've been thinking of fitting a pair.

Brian, the right hand one is quite useful, but the left hand one is not much use. She has the quarterlight mounted 'overtaking mirrors which are helpful, but to be honest, compared to a modern car with ridiculously thick pillars which can obscure an HGV at 20 paces, the visibility from a Minor is a joy.

Since we got Doris, she had to have a new clutch and had a substantial misfire, with eventually a complete loss of compression on one cylinder. I found the head was in a poor state and one valve had burnt through, so the head has been overhauled, with unleaded seats and new valves. I fitted a new water pump and thermostat at the same time and an alternator conversion. After putting her back together there was still a lot of misfiring, so I rebuilt the petrol pump and carb. Still a problem, so changed plugs, points, vacuum advance, condenser, but in the end it turned out to be the coil!
I have just fitted a reversing light and upgraded the headlights to halogen, plus rear seat belts.
She seems good now and we are looking forward to using her a lot more.

I learned to drive in my Dad's 1956 Almond Green saloon exactly 50 years ago this year, so it's all quite nostalgic.

Maybe I'll pass on the wing mirrors. I've got quarter light mirrors and they do the job.

I know what you mean about visibility. Particularly in the traveller you can swivel your head and have almost a 360 degree unimpeded view.
