There are plenty threads on here warning about what you are contemplating. Best idea really is to upgrade to a stronger rear axle (minor one is marginal and will snap halfshafts with wider wheels/tyres) and then purchase wheels to fit that. Axles that suit (with some work) are : Ford rwd range - Escort, Cortina, Capri etc, Morris Ital/Marina, MGB, Toyota Corolla (rwd), Fiat 132 etc , Volvo. Of course any rwd axle can be made to fit, but depends on your wallet.
I didn't understand your question about split screen front end. If it's just wings and front panel including lowlight, then yes, but to fit a split screen window aperture etc would involve major surgery.
