Thanks Keith,

Taken a little time but here are more pics;-

Engine and gearbox in situ between the rails.

New engine mounts made and Land Rover rubbers used.
Raised plates welded to the chassis allow the rubber mount to be bolted down.

The rear roll over frame modified and welded back into place. More tubes will be added on and around this.

Time to start mounting the suspension.

The engine/gearbox combo didn't come with any suspension bits so I'm using the Subaru hubs, adaptors and wheels as before.
The drive-shafts will need cutting and shutting too!

I played around with the original sub-frame and bottom wish-bones but couldn't get things to work the way they were.

It was time to re-make the sub-frame and use as much of the original Ford lower suspension arms as possible.
The plan is to add threaded adjusters to the lower arms so that I can adjust the toe.

Lower arms sand blasted, primed and cut up!
004.JPG

Round cds tubing drilled and fitted with threaded inserts to allow toe adjustments.
003.JPG

No, no, no, to me this looks wrong. The hub is off-set from the wishbone mount. Back to the drawing board me thinks!
005.JPG

May as well try the hub while I'm here
002.JPG

Strip the sub-frame off the chassis, keep the useful parts and re-cycle the rest
003.JPG

Original rear sub-frame mounting welded to start of the new frame
004.JPG

Re-worked sub-frame brings the wish-bone mounts into line
006.JPG

I just have to add two more chassis mounts to the front.

Tonight I got hold of 3 metres of roll-bar tubing so I will add that to the frame sometime over Christmas.

Thanks for looking in this year!

Happy Christmas! :toothy10:

More progress pics soon.

Cheers

Hi Martin,

That's why we are all addicted to this moggy modifying hobby ( that's a bit of a mouthful) because when it doesn't work its fun working out a solution.

Keep up the good work

Hi folks,

It has been a while since the last up-date, over 2 months so time for more pics;-

Adjustable eye-bolts for the lower rear suspension pivots.

001.JPG

004.JPG

More bracing to the rear frame. Still more to come. That might have to wait until the cab comes off;-

006.JPG

008.JPG

Adjustable top arms made and brackets welded into place;-

012.JPG

Cutting up the thick plates from the original build, I welded up these coil-over mounting brackets.
They will bolt directly to the up-right putting less stress on the adjustable arms. You can see these in the above pic.

009.JPG

These are the coil-over top mounts from the original build. I have cleaned them up and removed all the old frame-work ready for their new fitment.

010.JPG

Re-located coil -over top mount welded in.

013.JPG

004.JPG

Coil-over in situ;-

005.JPG

Time to take a break from all the frame-work.

After a lot of thinking time and a picture in one of my hotrod magazines, I took the decision to weld on the cab back panel;-

Well, some of you may have noticed that I have narrowed the frame-work that will carry the load bay floor. This is so that I can do this;-

006.JPG

007.JPG

009.JPG

I cut the front edge off the rear side panels. The curved part of this was be used to fill the gap at the bottom of the rear cab panel. Like this;-

001.JPG

002.JPG

003.JPG

Narrowing the load bay then meant that I had to narrow the rear valance and the tail-gate frame.

007.JPG

008.JPG

I thought I would try the wide wheels and tyres on to see what they look like. Maybe a little wide? What do you think?

005.JPG

Once the wheel/tyre combo is sorted I will make up some mud-guards to suit. These will be mounted off the suspension so they move with the wheels.

That pretty well brings us up to date.
There is some work to do on the front suspension and a bit more reinforcement to the chassis but for that I will have to lift the cab from the chassis.

Stay tuned!

Okay, so i have now picked this neat project up from Martin and will be aiming to continue the good work and update this thread as agreed!

As my first post im going to keep it relatively short and just lay down my ideas and plans.

Here is the pickup at the moment!

Image

The pickup came with an St170 engine which isnt going to deliver what i want once id weighed up the costs, so ive invested in this 280bhp Prodrive Performance Subaru

Image

So my main decision to be made is whether to build the engine into the front which will be tight, but this will allow standard pickup functions in the back and also 4wd or do i stick with Martins setup of a rear engined rwd drift machine. swaying towards front engine 4wd. Any thoughts?

The engine is out just the rest to dismantle now!

Hi Tyler,

Glad you have started posting and welcome to the forum. :D

You kept the Subaru idea quiet!

I had considered putting a Minor body on Scoob floor pan before but the main issue seems to be the engine overhang at the front? The front of the engine is where the front panel would be. I'm sure there are ways round that though!

Good luck and keep the up-dates coming.

Thanks

Hello Martin a local chap has put a split screen moggy on a scooby doo floor pan by widening the moggy shell I've not seen it yet but been told it looks good from some angles but not others Like you say about the rad problem he has it angled over the motor with the intercooler time will tell how hot it runs Good luck with your pickup build :D

Thanks Guys! will kepp updating when i have more and the weather looks a bit better for more progress.

Martin, the Subaru idea wasnt always on the cards, i looked at getting the 170 engine megasquirt modified first but the prices just worked out too costly compared to this alternative.

The engine location still hasnt been decided i really need to look into the fitment alot more first,im hoping i can squeeze it into the front with some jiggery pokery.

okay so ive been getting stuck into the two vehicles the subaru now looks like this

Image

ive got all the parts i need and i have made a good sized engine mount that fits into the minor well. i am now testing sizes and the engine is VERY tight but this is what i expected. the biggest problem being where i would resituate the rad 2. with the mount the engine is a little high so i cant get the bonnet completely down!!! and 3 which i believe will be sorted with welding a different angle pipe is just where the exhaust comes off the engine and turbo.

Image

Image

i am also hoping to get my 5x100 Scooby hubs pressed into the ford steering knuckle that martin supplied so i wont have to change any on the front suspension setup.

Any thoughts on my problems please give me a shout.

You'd have been better and quicker making a separate chassis and dropping the body on top ? Looks like your gonna have to cut the bulkhead to get the engine back a few inches? Are you turning it into Rwd ?
