Guy Croft (and the Fiat Mirafiori Haynes manual) says to set the ignition timing to 10 degrees BTDC at 850 rpm.

I did this to my 2-litre Fiat twin cam (the previous owner had set it to BTDC, following a rebuild) and it improved it enormously.

Have you removed the engine then?

No, just raised the suspension too high to avoid the wheels rubbing.  Another day to spend bringing her down a bit!

Phew, you must have raised it a fair few splines to get it that high compared to how it was!

Only one spline I thought...but then again they are tricky things to count when it's freezing cold flat on my back in the dim light!

Use tipex on the splines when you knock it off  makes it easier to see when you put it back.    I've just fitted coilover shocks to the front of mine far smoother ride

Thanks, yes are you saying emulsion on a 4" brush was overkill?

A tape measure before and after is a lot more useful than tipex, if find.

Can anyone tell me whether an MGB wiper motor will work on a Morris Minor? I have one but it seems that both wiper gearboxes turn 180 degrees....can I adjust the drivers side gearbox?

The motor itself is the same, but you may need to swap the gear over from your Minor's wiper gearbox to obtain the correct sweep angle:
