Finished work on time last night, then up early to take Mabel to my local Mot garage for annual test. As I parked up and applied handbrake - big "ping" noise & no handbrake
Obviously, due to modified nature of Mabel, Jaguar IRS & brakes, not a simple, go to local parts supplier for a new one, oh no. Trawling internet and phoning a number of companies didn't come up trumps either. £50 & we'll make one for you sir!!!
Luckily, along with the grateful assistance of two mates, cleaned up inner cable, brazed on a nut on the end, split open the collet that the cable had come through in the first place, refitted cable with nut, squeezed collet up tight, reconnected everything back up (sounds easy when typing, but not so when lying under & in car & only one pair of hands at that time) a few pulls, adjustments and applications in my rear lane on a slope, to ensure sorted - happy boy
Phoned Mot garage back, can't fit me in till next Friday
So same scenario next week as I started this tale - fingers crossed, finish lateshift on time, then up early to get Mabel to garage and onto ramp 1st.
I might make this her chosen form of transport:
p.s. the first picture is not my rear lane! - it's Gleneagles Hotel - was nearby in April this year & got a quick few pics!
2nd pic is how Mabel & I got home from said trip, thanks to a knackered windscreen wiper motor & weather changed dramatically to snow, albeit picture doesn't reflect the mega change of weather.
Joys of motoring!
